Impressions/storyline – We visited this jewel on our Christmas trip to Schulenberg. Also, on this trip, we took in the Painted churches as well as other courthouses. The courthouse is massive and dominates the small town of Halletsville. It seems to mirror the area’s German/Czech heritage. The courthouse seemed to be in pretty good shape – maybe even having been restored. On the Texas hIstorical Commission’s website – it seems that it had been restored (not sure when) and had additional restoration done after our visit. Not sure the new work is enough to make us come back – mainly it replaced the windows. Of note to me were the tiled floors. The pattern seems to replicate a pattern someone might have noticed in a quilt. I’m exploring the thought, along with my quilt buddy – Rita, of recreating such a quilt, if it ever existed.
