see Gillespie County Courthouse
see Historic Gillespie County Courthouse
This old-time jail sits directly across the street from the 1882 courthouse. Like the historic courthouse, this is an another example of the solid and sturdy presence a building built of hill country limestone provides. It was built in 1885 and served as the county’s jail until 1939.
Just wondering if the old jail houses a museum? And if so, what kind? County history, pioneer, law enforcement?
I don’t remember it housing anything. The old courthouse is now a library, and I believe part of it serves as ssome type of museum.
