We visited both the Liberty and Chambers county courthouses on the same day. That’s not all that made them the same. They both are moderne and had very similar styles and ‘feel’.
The Liberty County courthouse is a wonderful examle of the moderne style. the lamps, the marble, the exterior designs, the tile. All in all, a wonderful example of this style that was so popular in the 30’s and early 40’s. The courtroom has good decorations and some marvelous lamps hanging over the court.
The courthouse does not seem to sit on a courthouse square. This is probably caused by the fact that on one side of it is a busy highway with much more development than other parts of the area surround the courthouse. What makes the area somewhat impressive is the other buildings in the immediate area that have the same moderne/beaux-arts feel as the courthouse.
