Well – as modern courthouses go – this one isn’t terribly interesting. Not that isn’t OK – it’s just not too exciting. It does have a nice looking porch around the courthouse. The 1888 courthouse burned (the upper floor) and so they abandoned it. It could be a case of convenient excuse – or too high a restoration cost – whatever, Texas lost one of its’ oldest courthouses when the current courthouse was built and the old one torn town. A little bit of interest – most of the brick from the old courthouse was bought and used to build a River Oaks mansion in Houston.
