see Val Verde County Courthouse
see Del Rio
An interesting example of the numerous historic jails in Texas. This one is not difficult to find. It sits right next to the courthouse. the rusticated stone is so Texas. The jail was being renovated at the time of our visit – not sure for what purpose.
“This is the first Val Verde County jail, built in 1888, and designed by Larmour and Watson, the architects of the 1887 Val Verde County courthouse. It is on the courthouse square on the corner of Mill St. and E. Losoya St. It was used as a jail until 1956 and now houses other county offices. ” – from Texas Escapes
