Clem’s first impression of this Court House was that it looks like a University Administration Building. And it does that ‘campus’ look to it. This building is probably one of Texas’ most unique turn of the century courthouses. Beaux Arts – it didn’t have the external dome many of the other buidlings of that design had, but if you look in the tower from outside – it actually is topped by a dome. It’s full of beau arts detail – with little pieces of stained glass in many of the windows, stained glass in the district court room and terra cotta designs placed in some of the central areas. The interior is dominated by a full central view up 3 stories to a set of glass on the top. This building has a neglected feel to it, but don’t let that put you off. It is evident that they begun signicant work on the courthouse – perhaps as part of a restoration.
