The photo of the cotton field with oil pump and windmills in the background actually was taken in Glasscock County. This really represents this area of Texas – there is lots of cotton, wind farms and, of course, oil.
The Runnels County Courthouse was quite a bit of a disappointment. On the plus side, when they added on to each side of the courthouse – they took care to use the same stone from the same quarry as the original. But then, the windows – straight out of the 40’s. This courthouse has been updated and remodeled to a point of non description. The roof was removed as was the central tower. And the interior lacks any style. On the plus side – Ballinger is quite an active town with lots of places to eat and shop – so you might want to visit the courthouse and stay in town for a little while.
