Another Panhandle courthouse that, well, underwhelms. It was built as Classical Revival, and then remodeled in the 50’s. To give some credit to the remodeling of this courthouse – the bones are still visible. the front columns are still the prominent feature. There are still parapets on top of the front and over the front entrance – but that’s it. Inside isn’t much more exciting. However, the courtroom seems original flooring – unpolished. And, on the unusual side – in the courtroom, there’s a pathway behind the jury box – with coat hooks. Not seen that before. And like a few other courtrooms – the Briscoe County courtroom places the witness stand directly next to the jury box. Maybe they wanted to be able to see if the witness way sweating or not?
