We recently took a short trip to Blanco. Since it’s a short drive to Fredricksburg, we went ahead and took in the Gillespie County Courthouse. Not too exciting – but there is an historic courthouse next to it that’s worth the visit, as well as a 1800’s jail across the street.
I’ve also added 5 courthouses to the existing collectionp – McCulloch, McMullen, Mason, Maverick and Matagorda. In addition there are 4 town squares (Brady, Tilden, Mason and Bay City) and 4 more historic jails (McCulloch, McMullen, Mason & Maverick).
I will keep adding courthouses from our portfolio until all have been posted. There are some upcoming trips before the end of the year to the DFW and Houston areas which include plans to increase our collection of courthouses. With the weather cooling, I have some hope that a few other trips will happen as well. Check in from time to time and you’ll see the site growing.
Another addition I hope to accomplish soon is county appropriate connections to the Texas Historic Commission. These are the people who are in charge of the statewide efforts to save and restore our rich heritage as represented by these 254 courthouses.
