Houston County Courthouse, Texas

County Seat – Crockett

Built – 1939

Style – Moderne/art deco

Architect – Blum Hester

Pictures Taken – March 27, 2004

Impressions:  I capture this courthouse on a visit to our friends – Mary & Mike, in Palestine, Texas.  We may have to go back some day, as Clem wasn’t with me – so he hasn’t seen this courthouse as of yet.  It’s a rather plain moderne style.  But still, the art deco highlights do add interest and gives the building a good 1930’s/WPA feel about it.  Fairly certain the WPA helped construct the courthouse, as it did in counties all across the country.  Update:  We drove through Crockett returning from a trip to Margaritaville in Shreveport.  We stopped so that Clem could get his own photos.  I took a set – but not much different than those already uploaded.  I did add a quick courtroom photo – they were having a trial – so I took this before they resumed the trial.  I also added photos of the Crockett Town Square.
