The painted churches are rural catholic churches located near Schulenburg. We did a Christmas trip to Schulenburg one year – doing some area courthouses (Colorado, Lavaca, Bell and Lee come immediately to mind). We also decided to take the ‘Painted Churches’ driving tour. And I’m glad we did. We visited the 4 churches listed below. Go to each of them to see what ‘the big deal’ is, because it is a big deal. To make their churches as ornate as possible, and using a technique from the old country (Czechoslovakia, Germany, etc.), they used stencils to paint designs and themes throughout their churches. Enjoy the slideshows, but if you ever have a chance – go see them yourself.
