From my travel journal: Next stop was Mason and Mason County. Mason had the feel of a ‘fort’ town. I felt that before I read that much about its history. The town was built with stone taken from the local fort – Fort Mason. Anyhow, the courthouse. – lovely grounds. Very nice pecan trees – makes the picture taking difficult, but gives an air coolness and stateliness. Indeed, the building itself is stately, using what I believe to be a greco theme – what with the white colunms. All in all, a very nice picture.
Across the street sits the jailhouse, which I believe is still in use. Very difficult to get a picture of it because of those same large trees I mentioned above – but it is, again, a lovely structure, though much plainer in color and architecture than the one in Brady.
