We visited the Bowie Courthouse on a Saturday – so we weren’t able to get any interior shots.  The reasons for the Saturday visit were the fact that there were too many counties scheduled on this trip and I felt the courthouse would be too modern looking to worry about interior shots.

Well, it is very modern. The old courthouse was in Old Boston (which is now part of New Boston) and sat on a square, along with the historic Bowie County jail. But there wasn’t much a town around the square – and when it burned – the county chose to build elsewhere. The modern style was well done here – there’s a nicely laid out plaza in front of the courthouse with an imposing statue of James Bowie (the county’s namesake). The pillars around the outside of the courthouse add a nice feature as well.

Inside – from the glass doors – the lobby was a little more impressive than I would have thought. Lots of marble – and a set of stairs leading up to the second floor. It was all nicely decorated for the holidays.
