Go to Eastland County Courthouse
Eastland is an impressive town. Fairly tall buildings for such a small town. Like other towns in the area, this may well represent all the oil found in this area back in the early parts of the 1900’s.
Eastland is home to ‘Old Rip’. When the cornerstone for the previous courthouse (1897) was opened in 1928, it was discovered that a horned toad (later named Old Rip) had been encased in the vault for all those years. He was quite alive, and lived for some years after – becoming a creature of great interest. Folks came from all over to see Old Rip.
