Across from the Starr County Courthouse in Rio Grande City, stood an obvious point of interest. There was a church there with a park like area on the corner. We visited the area and quickly noted the grotto in the back. Evidently, back in the 1920’s, a priest was assigned to this parish from France. He decided to build an exact replica of the Grotto at Lourdes (I sure it’s a scaled replica). Anyhow, very interesting. The church, not so much so. The church is named Immaculate Conception, which I think was a favorite of the Oblate priests that were responsible for much of the early Catholic Missionary work in the area.
