Unique among all of the Historic Texas jails, the Collin representative in this category was called a Prison. Not sure why – maybe it gave the wrong-doer second pause. Or clearly represented to the community at large, how seriously Collin County took crime.
Regardless, this building is an excellent example of Victorian exuberance, when it came to constructing public buildings. It was designed by the well-known late 19th century architect – F. E. Ruffini and is built in the Italiante style. I somehow don’t think the interior was as elegant or welcoming as the exterior.
