This was a special visit for a couple of reasons. We took a day trip from San Antonio specifically to capture the renovated Bee County Courthouse. We had visited here in April of 2005 and found the Courthouse covered in scaffolding and plywood – and really didn’t look too impressive. But you could tell, this was a special courthouse – especially considering the marvelous dome , clock and statue.
The other reason for this being a special courthouse visit was the opportunity to visit inside the dome and out on the roof. The only other courthouse visit that came close to this was our visit to Willacy County, where we were taken into old closed areas of that courthouse. So make sure to take a little time and visit the ‘inside the dome’ page with slide show.
I was probably a little disappointed because in my mind I thought it would be so much grander. But make no mistake – this is a beaux-Arts beauty. The tile floors alone, are worth the visit. And the dome is special. Thanks to Officer Lazenby for making this a truly memorable visit.
